Speakers

Ken Evans
Kenneth R. Evans, CLU®, ChFC®, CFP®
www.kenevans.biz

On May 9, 2002, Ken was given the LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD by NAIFA Utah and the SFSP Utah. This award is given to the individual who, in the opinion of the Committee, has represented the industry with outstanding service and accomplishment, and who has likewise extended those qualities in personal service in the community. Beginning in 1977, Ken worked with the Principal Financial Group® as an insurance agent for Principal Life Insurance Company and, since 1980, as a Princor Registered Representative for Princor Financial Services Corporation (Princor®).

In 1993-1994, Ken was the "resident financial planning expert" on KSL radio 1160 AM for the "Financial News You Can Use" radio show, a financial planning call-in talk show. From 1995-1998 he was a frequent guest on KSL television's "Utah Business."

Ken has instructed courses in Investments, Retirement Planning, Personal Insurance, Business and Estate Planning, and Financial Planning for financial planners, insurance agents, and CPAs. He has been a frequent speaker throughout Utah and in California. In September 2008, Ken was elected by the 52,000 members of the NAIFA to serve as Trustee, one of ten to serve on the NAIFA Board of Trustees.  Download Ken's full bio at the bottom of this page.

"Dear Defendant: Will Business as Usual Hurt You at  Lawsuit Time?"

Suits against life and accident and health insurance agents and brokers have increased drastically in recent years. The allegations of these suits can be categorized into four main groups:
  • Failure to disclose medical information on the application.
  • Failure to explain the products sold.
  • Failure to explain the impact of replacing coverage.
  • Failure to follow through on requests made by clients or companies.
Increasingly, agents are viewed as professionals. As a result, the courts have held insurance agents or brokers to an ever-increasing degree of care and skill in the management of customers and company business. Your actions will be evaluated in hindsight by a jury chosen from a society that has a customer-oriented attitude.  Ken will cover best practices to ensure that in your day-to-day business you and your staff will conduct business in a way to protect against future legal liability.
